By Christine Todd Whitman April 18, 2013 I was extremely disappointed to see the gun legislation voted down in the Senate on Wednesday. When 90% of Americans support a piece of legislation that is then voted down by the Congress, something in our democracy is broken. How can we stand by and let a lobbying group thwart the will of a majority of Americans? It can only happen when the majority sits back and assumes commonsense will prevail. Perhaps this will be the wake up call that people need – we cannot continue to allow our government to be controlled by a few. We must start to demand policy over politics and the only way to do that is to show up at the polls. [...]
