Notable guests who gathered to pay tribute to Desiderio included former Governor Christie Todd Whitman, State Senator Michael Doherty, and State Assemblymen John DiMaio and Erik Peterson.

With 75 patrons in attendance, the evening was filled with salutations exalting the commitment that Desiderio displayed during the two-week period in the aftermath of Super Storm Sandy. She has received accolades from constituents and elected officials alike since the storm’s resolution.

“Her exemplary, untiring leadership in the wake of the storm helped to get her township back on its feet,” said Governor Whitman. “The job she did deserves our applause.”

Mayor Desiderio has served on the Tewksbury Township Committee for three years and was elected mayor at the start of 2012. Discussing her political aspirations, she said, “Too often in politics we see our leaders spending half their term serving and half their term trying to get re-elected. My feeling is that if you do the job you are elected to do; your career will fall into place. When I am satisfied that I have made a difference in the position I’m currently in, only then will I look for the next challenge.”
