Don’t Rollback Environmental Regulations

By Christine Todd Whitman NJ.com September 24, 2013 House Republicans this week sought to bargain for the debt ceiling increase President Obama is requesting with a laundry list of policy prescriptions, including a broad rollback of air and water quality regulations. Making the reversal of environmental regulations a bargaining chip is unwise and short-sighted. [...]

Don’t Intervene in Syria

By Christine Todd Whitman NJ.com August 29, 2013 Although I recognize his "red line" on chemical weapons has him in a bind, I urge President Obama Obama not to intervene in Syria. Assad's regime is brutal, no doubt, but we have no idea who would replace him. As we've seen in other countries that were part of the Arab Spring, sometimes the devil you know is better than the one you don't. Further, previous drone strikes have not been shown to be effective in the long run (e.g. Lockerbie bombing, 9/11) and Syria is surrounded by neighbors with strong militaries who should care more than we do. [...]

By Christine Todd Whitman and Stacey Key The Augusta Chronicle August 25, 2013 America’s energy future is at a crossroads. The Energy Information Administration projects that our country’s electricity demand will increase 28 percent by 2040. Meeting this demand means investing in short-term solutions like natural gas, but we must continue to invest in long-term, affordable electricity options such as nuclear energy as well. [...]

Good Movement for the Republican Party

By Christine Todd Whitman NJ.com August 16, 2013 Although I don’t often find myself extolling his ideas, I applaud Newt Gingrich’s speech to the Republican National Committee’s summer meeting this week. Gingrich reminded our Party leaders that we need to move beyond blind opposition to President Obama and demonstrate that we have positive solutions to the issues the nation faces. [...]

Immigrants: Potential Future Republicans

By Christine Todd Whitman NJ.com June 27, 2013 It is discouraging to read quotes from conservatives who frame the immigration debate solely from the perspective of partisanship: the fear of turning the border states into Democrat strongholds. What about the loss to the economy of not turning people into taxpayers, the young people who came here, not of their own volition, who we educated and now want to contribute? The issues at stake – to say nothing of the millions of lives that hang in the balance – are not traditionally liberal ones; they are issues of fiscal prudence. [...]
