UN and The View

By Christine Todd Whitman NJ.com September 24, 2012 While world leaders gathered yesterday for the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, President Obama left Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to represent the U.S., preferring to appear on daytime talk show "The View". While Obama did appear at the UN this morning, his neglect of world leaders yesterday was both a poor prioritization of time and further evidence of just how superficial our campaigns have become. The Chemical Threat to America

By Christine Todd Whitman The New York Times August 29, 2012 SINCE Sept. 11, 2001, the American government, under two presidents, has taken unprecedented steps to ensure the safety of its citizens. Unfortunately, more than a decade later, a major flaw in our national security remains, leaving millions of Americans at risk. It’s a flaw that policy makers have known about for years but not yet done enough to fix. [...]

My Bright Idea: Christine Todd Whitman on Nutrient Trading

By Christine Todd Whitman Bloomberg Businessweek August 23, 2012 In January 2003 the Environmental Protection Agency created a nutrient trading program for water within a watershed. Nutrient trading is a market-based approach for protecting and improving water quality. After establishing the total amount of nutrients that may enter a watershed, the total amount of allowed pollution is then divided among the participating sources. Sources able to reduce pollution at a low cost are incentivized to reduce nutrient loads beyond their required level and to then sell the excess credits. Through those trades, pollution reduction efforts get reallocated to the sources that have the lowest-cost opportunities to cut pollution, reducing the total cost of improving water quality. [...]

Chris Christie will be a keynote speaker at the Republican National Convention at the end of August. As co-host of the 1996 Republican convention in San Diego, I have seen firsthand the challenges and opportunities that come with being featured on such a nationally prominent platform. [...]

A New McCarthyism

By Christine Todd Whitman NJ.com July 20, 2012 I am appalled by Congresswoman Michele Bachmann’s questioning the loyalty of Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Huma Abedin, a longtime aide to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. She and the other representatives who joined in the allegations that Abedin has ties to the Muslim Brotherhood should be ashamed. Is this the way we now treat faithful government officials who happen to have immigrant parents? I applaud Sen. John McCain for standing up against members of our party and these egregious claims. Secretary Clinton and I disagree on many policy views, but knowing the many challenges of her job and her aide's jobs, I have tremendous respect for their hard work on behalf of our country. [...]
